Welcome!

As we approach the end of another busy half-term, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful activities and events that have filled our school community with energy and excitement. From engaging classroom projects to memorable trips and extracurricular activities, it has been a delight to see the children learning, growing, and thriving.

We are incredibly grateful for your continued support—whether it’s attending events, supporting with learning activities, or simply cheering your child on, your involvement makes all the difference. Together, we’re creating a positive and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and secure.

Academisation Update

Prescot Primary and Nursery School's conversion to academy status remains on track. The current plan is for our school to join The Rowan Academy Trust on 1st February 2025.

Breakfast Club and After School Club

Could we remind parents that the responsibility for booking either of our clubs via Arbor is essential to the efficient management of the clubs.  Please ensure you book within the designated window to secure your child a place. 

The booking window is now open for January 2025.

Unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate late bookings, unless it is an emergency and pre-arranged with us. We must plan ratios carefully and would not want to compromise the safety of our children. 

Can we express a huge thank you to one of our Breakfast Club staff members, Mrs Oliver, who is leaving us this week, (although she will continue with her LSA position in school). Welcome to the BC Team, Mrs Furlong and Miss Southern!

Polite reminder: Our members of staff should be treated with respect at all times. We always try to do our best for the families who use BC/ASC.

Early Years Update

EYFS has had a wonderful end to the Autumn Term.  Nursery had a special visit to the magical Christmas postbox where they posted their letters to Father Christmas.  They have been super excited with their replies too! On their return to Nursery it looked like a 'winter wonderland'; they couldn’t believe the magic that had happened whilst they’d been out! 

Our Christmas EYFS Sing-a-long was amazing.  All of the children were simply amazing and all of them took part beautifully, we are so proud of them! It is not an easy task being up on that stage with so many people watching but they sure did shine! We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did and are sure that you will certainly agree it definitely got us in the festive spirit. 

The deadline for Reception Applications September 2025 is fast approaching.  Even if your child is in our Nursery you have to apply for a place before 15th January 2025.  If you miss this deadline, you will be classed as a late applicant and your child may not get a place.  The last few years we have had a waiting list and we already know that we have had over 60 applications.  Knowsley residents should apply on the Knowsley Council website:

Non-Knowsley residents should apply through their own Local Authority website. 

Nursery places for January 2025 new starters have been issued and we only have 8 remaining for April 2025 new starters.

Please email: admissions@prescotprimary.org.uk if you require a place in April 2025, September 2025 or January 2026! Our Extended Childcare Offer Places fill up fast, so add your child to the waiting list now.

SEND Update

We would like to share some important news regarding our SEND Team.

Michelle Blackburn, our KS1/2 SENDCo, has reached the difficult decision to leave our staff team in order to pursue other adventures. Whilst we are sorry to be losing Mrs Blackburn’s valuable expertise, we know that this is the best decision for her. We would like to say thank you for her dedication and commitment to providing the very best for all of our children, but particularly those with SEND needs.

Many of you have worked in close partnership with Mrs Blackburn over the years to ensure the best care for your child. We are eager to maintain these strong relationships going forward. For this reason, Mrs Blackburn will support the SEND Team by completing transition days running through until February half term 2025. In this way, we can catch up with important deadlines and reviews. Going forward, we aim to develop a wider SEND Team which will draw on the expertise of skilled staff across school.

PCP Attendance Information

Can we remind all families that children must be in school for 8.50am. Gates will be closed and your child will be marked later if they arrive at this time. Children who regularly arrive late can have an unsettled start to the day and feel unprepared for their first lesson. We would urge you to think about the impact that lateness has on learning and minutes lost as a result.

Busy Y5 Penguins!

It feels like our Y5s haven't stopped this half term - and we have loved seeing them hop from one activity to another.

The children have been mastering the skill of riding their bikes on the roads ... this wasn't easy when the snow and ice arrived! The Penguins then learned how to build websites with Mr Ellis from Knowsley CLC. It's great to see how advanced our digital skills are becoming. And finally, year 5 took part in a worldwide online writing lesson which involved around 8,000 children from 300 classes around the world - from Prescot to Dubai. We used a festive image to inspire us to create Christmas stories. Such an amazing experience!

Reading Update

With all the festivities happening around school and at home, we would be forgiven for expecting our children’s reading to have been  placed on the back burner, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.  We have racked up an incredible 30,000,000 words already this year and have welcomed our first Word Millionaires!  Zoe and Ore from our Year 6 Tigers pressed the “send” button at exactly the same time on their quizzes to pass the post together.  Their friendship is as strong as their reading.  

Our children have adapted to the library being used more as a learning space, which means they are a little more limited in when they can access it.  It hasn’t stopped them making full use of it though, with two and a half thousand books borrowed this year.  Our reading leaders, Alice and Esmae, created a positive and informative video to help our readers to remember how we use our library with care so it remains our favourite shared space.  With the help of AJ they did an amazing and creative job.  We loved watching it in assembly.

Again, we would like to say thanks for the donations of well-cared for, pre-loved books which keep appearing and which make our library what it is: an exciting environment which offers a huge range of books for all reading abilities.  If you find your shelves are straining with the weight of new books after Christmas, we would love to accept any you no longer have room for.   We wish you a merry Christmas and happy reading!

Goodbye and Hello...

We have recently said goodbye to our long-serving Chair of Governors, Glenys Hurst-Robson who has supported our school in many different ways over the past 7 years. The children made a wonderful 'thank you' video and staff and governors have sent their heartfelt thanks for Mrs Hurst-Robson's dedication, loyalty and unlimited botheredness.

One of our current governors, Ian McLoughlin, has been elected as our new Chair of Governors. We look forward to working together to build upon the legacy left by Mrs Hurst-Robson.
