We don't know about you, but we all feel that this year has absolutely flown over! We zoomed through autumn term, with our trips to local landmarks, peasants' revolts, 'magic postbox' walks, nativities, Talent Shows and Christmas Markets. Then came spring term where we had WW2 sirens and Stone-Age hunters filling the school. Kingswood, Bake-Off and World Book Day are other high points. And summer term - always filled to the brim with learning and activities: Sports Week, Careers Showcase, PSHE Conferences, welcome meetings, celebrations and graduations - and not forgetting our fabulous Songbird Conservation Project.
We cannot thank you all enough for keeping up with us throughout another busy and engaging year.
Read on to learn more about recent events.

Goodbye and Good Luck!
We are so sad to be losing one of our long-standing LSAs. Miss Ellen will be leaving us alongside her PCPKangaroos to complete her degree and hopefully join us in the teaching profession. As a former pupil, it has been a joy to see Miss Ellen bring smiles to the children's faces, being their biggest advocate and support. We will miss her creativity, her compassion and her enthusiasm for absolutely everything. TEAMPCP through and through.
We will also be saying goodbye to Miss Abbott, who has worked as an LSA all across school. She, too, has been a fantastic support to our children, especially those in Y2 Pandas this year. We wish Miss Abbott well as she moves onto her next adventure!

Early Years Update
It is the end of another fabulous adventure for our early years children. This week are littlest learners, our nursery children, graduated ready to start their adventure in full-time school. It was a lovely occasion and it was great to celebrate it with their families. We are delighted that all of our Nursery children will be joining us in reception next year and cannot wait to continue to watch them grow and learn. We’ve had so many wonderful experiences with all of our early years children and are confident that as they move into their next class they are well-prepared.
Exciting times - the development of The Bridge! We have used some school funds to develop the atrium space between Reception and Year 1, to provide the children with more spaces to explore and learn. This space is especially great for our Year 1 children as they make the transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage play-based curriculum to the National Curriculum in Key Stage One. Year 1 children still have opportunities to engage in play, but it is more structured though planned ‘Explore and Learn’ time.
There will be a welcome meeting early on in September for you to find out more.

Important BC/ASC change from Sept 2024.
Mrs Boadey, our fabulous BC/ASC Manager, will not be managing our BC/ASC provision from Sept 2024. We would like to thank her for the countless extra plans, phone calls and emails she has made to ensure that the children in our wrap-around clubs have the very best environment that is both engaging and nurturing. We know that many families value our BC/ASC service highly and we would like to say thank you to Mrs Boadey for ensuring that our families can trust in a reliable, safe, caring place for their children to relax before and after school.
Mrs Boadey will, however, continue as a member of the teaching teams in school.
From Sept 2024, BC/ASC administration and management will change, more details will follow. Please do not contact Mrs Boadey using her own email address from now on.
Instead, please use:

Goodbye Y6 Kangaroos!
Our Kangas have had a fabulous year and have had a very busy few weeks of celebrating and reminiscing! We have had some wonderful comments from Y6 families who have shown such appreciation for the PCP approach in preparing our children for Y7 and beyond. Thank you to the Kangaroos and their families for being another year group to remember!

Important message about school meals
Due to significant increases in salary and food costs, we have made the difficult decision to increase the cost of our school meals to £2.40 per day (£12.00 per week). This will commence from Tuesday 3rd September 2024.
Should you think your child may be eligible to free school meals, please can we encourage all parents/carers to apply to the Local Authority in which you live for free school meals (FSM). This application can be done online. Knowsley Council's link is: https://parentportal.knowsley.gov.uk/web/portal/pages/fsmapplication#h2
If you are eligible, School will receive additional funding which supports learning in a different way. Furthermore, currently, Knowsley Council fund a daily voucher for £3.00, to spend at a supermarket of your choice, during school holidays for every pupil in your family who is entitled to free school meals.
Year 2 Pandas - Previously your child qualified for a universal free school meal. However, from September 2024 when your child moves to Year 3, you will pay for school dinners, unless your child is entitled to free school dinners.
Please can you email school, on admin@prescotprimary.org.uk, to inform us of your child's meal choice (eg, school dinner/packed lunch) before Tues 3/9/24. We must ask that if you wish to change your child's meal choice at any time during the school year, you must inform the school office.
Please do not inform the teacher of meal changes.

Reading Update
It’s that time of year and, yet again, it has come around so very quickly. Year 6 will take all of their reading skills off to high school and the rest of the school will start their reading journey again in September. There is a link on Google Classroom to follow the Knowsley Summer Reading Challenge which is always good fun and a great way to keep your children reading throughout the summer, especially if it’s raining!
We have had a super successful year with so many reading targets met, so many rewards awarded and so many opportunities to read, whether that be using books, newspapers, magazines or on our iPads. Our unique combination of iPads, Accelerated Reader and our amazing library has once again given our children everything they need to read and succeed. Tilly from Year 4, Bella-May, Harrison E, Amelia R and AJ from Year 5 and Daniel, Michael and Daisy H from Year 6 have all joined the Word Millionaire club this half term, and we have more that 50 Half-Millionaires. Plenty to shout about, not least the 100,000,000 words read throughout the school.
None of this would ever be possible without our children who manage to find so much time to read despite their busy lives and other distractions, and our parents and carers who encourage them towards their targets. Thank you to our families for the constant supply of donated books which keeps our library current and accessible to everyone. We would also really like to thank Sarah Benyon, our Governor, and M&Y Maintenance and Construction for their generous sponsorship at the beginning of the year which has enabled us to reward our children as we really want to. We made sure your money stretched a long way.
Congratulations to Alice and Dola from Y5 Tigers, who will be our Y6 reading Champions.
We are looking forward to next year; we just know it’s going to be a good one for reading.

Roarsome Tigers!
The Tigers have had a busy last half term before they embark on their final year at Prescot Primary. Our trip to the museum was a great success and the children were fully involved in the mummification session. Mr Connor is looking forward to moving into Y6 with the other half of the Tigers and Mrs Scott is looking forward to working with the Penguins.

RRSA Update: Pupil Leadership
At PCP, we place great importance on encouraging and developing our children as pupil leaders, especially in Y5 and Y6. We also feel that it is important for children to apply for a role and for the older children to be part of the recruitment process. Our Y5 Tigers have submitted some excellent applications for the Y6 leader posts - it was very hard for teachers and the current House Captains to select the right candidates for the right roles - but we did it!
Now we have a fabulous crew of House Leaders, EYFS Leaders, Sports Leaders, DIGI Leaders, House Point Counters and canteen Buddies, ready to continue our aspirational tradition of enabling children to believe in their own potential.

Conservation Project 2024
Our 6th annual Conservation Project has been a huge success, with children all over school now understanding more about the threat to songbirds all over the world. Our overarching aim is to grow the future custodians of the planet by engaging them in authentic campaigns which ignite their curiosity and passion for the world around them - we think that was achieved! Our children also learn how to use their voices to raise awareness and act for change in a peaceful way. This is also a significant part of our Rights Respecting approach and one which we look forward to continuing in our 7th Conservation Project - but what will it be?

Songbird Fundraising
Your donations have totalled a considerable amount - for which we are extremely grateful!
Our Songbird Exhibition raised £304.50. We have to say a HUGE thank you to one of our grandparents who created her own 'Lucky Dip' stall with great prizes for the children to enjoy. Thanks to Jack, Brodie and their Nan for being so 'bothered'. This stall raised £86.60 all on its own!
Our Sponsored Silence raised an incredible £2565.61!
This makes a grand total of £3066.01, half of which will be donated to Chester Zoo to support their Songbird campaign.
https://www.chesterzoo.org/what-you-can-do/donate/
The rest will go into our School Fund. This helps us to support more charitable events throughout the year and will support next year's conservation project. We also use this fund to improve our school environment and resources which all children benefit from.
Thanks also goes to Mrs Baldwin and Cables FC for organising our Sports Week fundraising event. Congratulations to Harry Stewart in Y6 who won a family match ticket and Nuala Mitton in Y1 who won a signed shirt.
THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN!

Prescot Pilots 23/24
A quick congratulations is in order for every child who took part in our Prescot Pilots programme this year. Our end-of-year celebration was a vibrant demonstration of all the fabulous activities that our children take part in outside of the classroom walls and hours. Thanks to all of the families who attended.
If your children keep a note of all their summer holiday learning activities, they can be added to their first Pilot Log in September.
Also, see an email and photo below for a list of school clubs for the autumn term.

SEND Update
The use of visual resources with all children is as important at home as it is in school. This is a long holiday when the children will be away from school routines and some families may find these resources useful to structure the weeks ahead.
The Holiday Countdown (to help children back into school in Sept) and the symbols below have also been shared on EvidenceMe and Google Classroom.
Why not screenshot the images and use them on your mobile devices if you need to?

Online safety
We have a great partnership with Knowsley CLC, who have produced some great 'How To' videos for parents and carers. These videos are simple to follow and cover a range of devices.
We would urge you to spend some time over the summer having a look. Click here to access the website:

Attendance Reminder for 24/25
Every moment in school counts and days missed add up quickly. Evidence shows that pupils who have good attendance enjoy better wellbeing and school performance than those who don’t. Your child must attend school every day when the school is open, unless
-
Your child is ill to attend that day.
-
You have asked in advance and been given permission by the school for your child to be absent on that day due to exceptional circumstances.
-
Your child cannot attend school on that day because it is a day you are taking part in a religious observance.
From August 2024, the new national framework comes into force and all schools will be required to consider a fine when a child has missed 10 or more sessions (5 days of absence) for unauthorised reasons. The fine for school absences across the country will be £80 if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid within 28 days. Please note, there is no right of appeal once a notice has been issued.
School keeps you safe, it educates you, it prepares you for your future. Don't miss out!
|
|
From all of us at Prescot Primary and Nursery School, have a safe and happy long summer break.
See you on Tuesday 3rd September for another great year!
(PGL Tigers - don't forget to practise packing your case amid making your bed! It will soon be here!)
