Once again, we have a full newsletter packed with lots of learning stories and good news.

Academisation Update

On Saturday 1st February, Prescot Primary School officially converted into an academy and became part of the Rowan Learning Trust. Whilst this is a significant change in many ways, we hope that you won't see many changes day-to-day. We are still very much TEAMPCP and will continue to provide a unique, nurturing, innovative learning environment for our children.

Breakfast Club and After School Club

Once again, another settled and happy half term in Breakfast and After School Clubs. The booking window on Arbor is now open for dates running up to Easter. We have welcomed lots of new starters and it has been wonderful to watch different children building great relationships with new friends.

Polite reminder: Our members of staff should be treated with respect at all times. We always try to do our best for the families who use BC/ASC. We appreciate children being picked up by 5.30pm to allow us to lock up on time.

Nursery Update

What another busy and exciting half term! Well done to all our new boys and girls for setting into Nursery so well and thank you to our older boys and girls for being kind and caring friends!

This half term we have loved our ‘Dangerous Dinosaurs’ and ‘Puddles and Rainbow’ topic. From exploring colour mixing in puddles to becoming mini palaeontologists, we have had such a wide range of learning experiences!

Attendance

Our current attendance stands at 93%, slightly below the national average of 94.6%.

While we appreciate the efforts of families in ensuring children are in school, we know that every day counts. Regular attendance is vital for children’s learning, social development, and overall well-being. Missing school means missing out on valuable lessons, friendships, and routines that help children thrive. Arriving on time is also important for the same reasons.

We encourage all families to prioritise attendance wherever possible and work with us to ensure every child benefits from the full learning experience. Let’s aim high and work together to improve our attendance!

Safety Week

During our Safety Weeks, we talk to the children about safeguarding and how it is our duty to keep all of our children safe. In particular, we prepare the children to complete evacuation drills and this half term, we have had another successful fire drill.

We have also completed an invacuation drill, whereby the children must come back into the school building from outside. The children followed usual routines and settled back in class within a couple of minutes. Both types of drill will be practised once per term.

Little Lifesavers

It was wonderful to welcome the Little Lifesavers charity back into school to work with our Y5 and Y6 children. As an important part of our PSHE Curriculum, First Aid' is also something we value as a Rights Respecting School. We want our children to know how to protect themselves and others and value these important life skills.

Well done to our Penguins and Tigers - and thank you to the Little Lifesavers.

Rights Respecting Update

During those snowy first days back in January, we all felt the frustration in having to slip and slide down Maryville Road in icy conditions. Our children are equally annoyed by this and so our RRS Changemakers wrote to the Mayor of Prescot to ask for his help.

It was wonderful to get a reply! He has agreed to help us with our suggestion of adding two grit bins to Maryville Road - but we need to ask our neighbours to help us. If you know anyone who lives on Maryville, maybe you could mention it to them? 

Today, we met to talk about our options and what we should do next.

Watchfactory News!

Our Y5 Penguins have been continuing to visit our lovely friends at the Watchfactory in Prescot. It has been wonderful to reconnect with our regular playmates who continue to show patience as we learn how to play dominoes... they even sent a couple of sets of dominoes back to school with us. We will be experts soon!

Healthy Schools Award

We have now received our 'Healthy Schools Knowsley' Bronze Award from. We are doing so many things to encourage children to have a healthy lifestyle and diet. Our canteen has been recognised as a space where children can connect over food and are free to try new foods, sampling foods they may never have tried before.

We will now look at ways to develop a healthier attitude towards snacks and look more closely at sharing ideas for healthy lunch boxes.

FREE SWIMMING SESSIONS

FREE Junior Swimming at all Volair clubs this February Half-Term

Thanks to funding from Knowsley Council’s Public Health team, junior swimming across Kirkby, Stockbridge Village, Huyton and Halewood Volair clubs will be free to children aged under 16 during public swimming times from Monday, February 17th until Sunday, February 23rd. 

 Check our opening times and  Volair Public Swim Timetables on our website or download our FREE mobile app. Just search ‘Volair’ on Google or visit the AppStore. Adult swimming costs £5.80 per session. For more information about our half term offer go to our website.

 Volair Kirkby’s SEN FREE Swim

If your child struggles in group settings, we are limiting the number of participants for the SEN FREE Junior Session @Volair Kirkby to 30 to help create a more relaxed and manageable space for everyone, giving all children access to a fun, safe, and comfortable environment.

  • Does your child require one-to-one assistance to move in the water? Parental supervision is required.
  • Does your child have any restrictions or limitations in or under the water? Parental supervision is required.
  • Does your child require medication during the session? Parental supervision is required.

 The SEN FREE Junior Session offer will run on Sunday, February 16th and February 23rd, from 5 pm - 6 pm. Please view our swimming pool admissions policies before visiting.

Reading Update

Reading at Prescot Primary continues to be our number one priority.  The children access Accelerated Reader and the library freely and independently and we are proud of that.  Lunchtime reading clubs are held to offer support to readers as well as provide a lovely warm drop-in space for anyone who fancies a quiet read.  After school reading club is fully subscribed and again offers a comfortable and friendly environment to explore the library, kick off your shoes and curl up for a read.  Children may bring a snack and a drink if they choose.  Adults can book through Arbor each half term for after school reading. 

Our children take ownership of everything available to them and it shows!  44 million words read, 8000 quizzes taken, 3600 books borrowed, 18 half word millionaires and 5 word millionaires.  They constantly impress us with their enthusiasm.

Reading rewards will be awarded when we come back after half term.  This time, in years 5 and 6, we have gone for a triple whammy with a combination of rewards whilst years 3 and 4 have their own goals to work towards.  Remember: read read read! 

Springtime is ideal for a spring clean, and we would love to welcome any pre-loved and cared for books you may have at home to our library.  We are very close to adding our 5000th book to our library, which is incredible in itself, but seen against a national backdrop of underfunding and closure of school libraries is an absolute tribute to our families and their generosity.  Every child benefits from this.  To celebrate this landmark, we are offering a special prize to the donor of the 5000th book.  Watch this space!
