Physical Education Curriculum and Intent

At Prescot Primary School, we believe that Physical Education plays a vital role in developing confident, resilient, and active learners. Our aim is to embed sport and physical activity at the heart of school life, ensuring all children enjoy being active while gaining essential skills that support their physical and mental well-being.

Our Intent

Our PE curriculum is designed to:

  • Prioritise health, fitness, and enjoyment for all pupils.
  • Promote resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for staying active through a variety of clubs.
  • Align with the national curriculum and our school values.

Our Curriculum

We follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme, which ensures high-quality, structured lessons that develop a range of physical skills across different sports and activities. Our approach includes:

  • A focus on fundamental movement skills, including agility, balance, and coordination.
  • A variety of sports and activities that encourage participation and enjoyment.
  • Opportunities for children to develop teamwork, leadership, and self-reflection.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We are committed to providing pupils with a broad range of sports clubs and competitions to enhance their experience. We have achieved the School Games Gold Award, recognising our dedication to promoting school sport. Pupils have access to:

  • Inter-house sports competitions
  • Local school sports events
  • A variety of extra-curricular clubs based on pupil and parent feedback

Our Future Goals

We continue to develop our PE provision by:

  • Supporting teacher development to ensure engaging and confident PE lessons
  • Increasing pupil participation in clubs and competitions
  • Strengthening partnerships with local sports clubs to provide further opportunities

By fostering a love for movement and physical activity, we aim to equip our pupils with the skills, confidence, and enthusiasm to lead healthy, active lives.

“I will never lose, I will only win or learn.”
