PE and Sport Premium

Sport is firmly embedded at the heart of our school. We have placed a priority on health, fitness and enjoyment and our aim is to engage all of our pupils in sport - at every age, in a variety of ways, in lots of different places!

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government will continue investment in the Primary PE & Sport Premium, as announced in December 2015 through ‘Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation.’

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

How we will use P.E and Sport Funding at Prescot Primary School?

In April 2013, the Government introduced a £150 million funding initiative to enhance physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This investment in promoting physical activity has continued annually, supporting schools in delivering high-quality PE.

At Prescot Primary School, we have fostered a culture where sport and physical activity are an integral part of school life. We celebrate and nurture every child’s sporting achievements, participation, and talents. Our goal is to provide exceptional opportunities for all pupils to engage in physical activity and sport, inspiring them to remain active throughout their lives.

We allocate our Primary PE & Sports Premium funding strategically, focusing on five key priorities:

Key Indicator 1: Engaging all pupils in regular physical activity—aligning with Chief Medical Officers' recommendations that primary-aged children should take part in at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity in school.

Key Indicator 2: Raising the profile of Physical Education, School Sport & Physical Activity (PESSPA) as a means to support whole-school development.

Key Indicator 3: Enhancing staff confidence, knowledge, and skills in delivering PE and sport.

Key Indicator 4: Providing pupils with access to a wide variety of sports and physical activities to broaden their experiences.

Key Indicator 5: Increasing participation in competitive sports, ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to take part in structured competitions.

Through these key areas, we are committed to ensuring every child at Prescot Primary School benefits from a high-quality PE curriculum, a strong sporting culture, and lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
